Skimmer is an established pool service platform for routes, technician field work, service records, billing, and QuickBooks. It is the reliability-oriented choice in pool service software, with a long operating history, more than 30,000 pool pros by its own count, and a large public review history. It suits owners who want a proven option, and its Enterprise controls make it a strong candidate for larger and multi-location companies.
I’m Parker Conley, the founder of PoolDial, which competes with Skimmer, so read this as a competitor’s review rather than an independent one. My personal take is labeled as opinion below.
What is Skimmer?
Skimmer is software built around recurring pool routes. Its current materials cover technician workflows that work offline, routes, service history, readings and dosages, billing, QuickBooks, customer communication, and Enterprise controls for larger or multi-location operations. Skimmer says more than 30,000 pool pros use it and that it supports businesses from 0 to 20,000 pools (Skimmer · Enterprise).
The company was founded in 2017 and is based in Austin, Texas. In October 2024 it announced $74 million in growth capital from Mainsail Partners, when it reported more than 29,000 pool professionals servicing 700,000 pools in North America (announcement).
What Skimmer Looks Like
Skimmer pricing
Skimmer prices by serviced location. The entry plan has a $49 monthly minimum for up to 49 locations, Scaling Up is $2 per location from 50 to 1,000 locations, and Enterprise is quoted above that.
| Plan | Price |
|---|---|
| Getting StartedUp to 49 serviced locations | $49/mo |
| Scaling Up50 to 1,000 serviced locations | $2 per location/mo50 locations: $100/mo · 300 locations: $600/mo |
| EnterpriseAbove 1,000 serviced locations | Custom quote |
| AI PhoneOptional add-on | $99/mo |
Published pricing checked September 25, 2026 and again October 29, 2026; the per-location totals are illustrative estimates, not quotes. A serviced location can hold more than one body of water. Route optimization comes with Scaling Up and Enterprise. With AI Phone, a 100-location Scaling Up account comes to $299 a month. Skimmer advertises a first-month Scaling Up promotion with usage limits; its terms say service beyond 49 locations can be billed. Skimmer pricing · AI Phone guide
Strengths and tradeoffs

Tradeoffs to check
- Route optimization comes with Scaling Up and Enterprise, not the entry plan
- AI Phone is an optional $99 monthly add-on
- Unpaid invoices stay in Skimmer until payment is recorded, then sync to QuickBooks Online
- Much older service history may need to download from the cloud in the mobile app
- AI Insights is in early access and answers reporting questions but cannot change records
- Above 1,000 locations, pricing is a custom Enterprise quote
Public reviews
A snapshot checked August 9, 2026 on Capterra and Google Play; 4.8 combines the two platforms. These are dated platform scores, not a reliability test.
Founder’s take
For the average buyer who mainly wants a reliable, established option, I would choose Skimmer. It is also my preference for a larger company.
I would choose PoolDial when a more modern product, direct access to the founder for support and product input, or confirmed regional currency and metric-unit settings matter more. If you need those international settings in Skimmer, verify the exact countries, currencies, and units with them before buying.
Who should use Skimmer?
- Owners whose first priority is a reliable, established platform with a long track record
- Larger and multi-location companies that need Enterprise controls
- Teams that want a large support organization and plenty of public reviews to read
- Companies that want technicians working offline on pool-specific routes
Before you buy, build and change one real route, complete a stop with poor connectivity, and create an invoice to test the QuickBooks sync with your bookkeeper. If you need regional currencies or metric units, confirm them with Skimmer directly.
Details worth checking
- QuickBooks Online
- Skimmer documents automatic transfers of customers, products, payments, and paid invoices, with unpaid invoices staying in Skimmer until payment is recorded (sync guide). Confirm the records your bookkeeper needs.
- Working offline
- Technician workflows work without a cellular connection. Skimmer notes that much older history may need to download from the cloud (mobile history), so include older visits in your offline test.
- Route optimization
- Comes with Scaling Up and Enterprise (pricing).
- Taking your data with you
- Skimmer documents spreadsheet exports for customers, service locations, and completed service history (reports and exports). Ask for a sample with the records you would need.
- AI tools and phone answering
- The early-access AI Insights answers reporting questions but cannot change records (AI Insights). AI Phone is a $99 monthly add-on (AI Phone guide).

Yes. Skimmer documents automatic transfers of customers, products, payments, and paid invoices to QuickBooks Online, with unpaid invoices staying in Skimmer until payment is recorded. Confirm the records your bookkeeper needs before switching.
Does Skimmer work offline?
Yes. Skimmer says its technician workflows work without a cellular connection. Its help center notes that much older service history may need to download from the cloud, so include older visits when you test it offline.

Skimmer advertises a first-month Scaling Up promotion with usage limits; its terms say service beyond 49 locations can be billed. Check the current offer and cancellation terms before signing up.
Is Skimmer a good choice for a larger pool company?
As PoolDial’s founder, my recommendation for a larger company is Skimmer, which offers Enterprise controls for multi-location operations and says it supports businesses up to 20,000 pools. PoolDial is currently the strongest fit for businesses up to roughly 200 pools and a few employees.
