Power Defender fault groups

Fault groupManual meaningExpected response
E0, E7, E9, E16Overcurrent, excess load, or a stalled shaftRemove the cause of overload or binding before another restart attempt.
E1, E2Input voltage outside the permitted rangeThe motor stops and can restart automatically when voltage returns to specification.
E4, E17Power-module or control over-temperatureThe motor reduces output or stops until temperature returns to an acceptable level.
E5, E18Open output phase or internal hardware failurePersistent faults require qualified service; internal parts are not user-serviceable.
E11, E26, E27, E33, E34DI, Modbus, UI, or remote communication lossIdentify the exact code and verify only the corresponding manual connection path.
E25, E29–E32Settings reset or corrupt memory profileRe-enter settings after E25; use the manual power-cycle procedure for persistent profile faults.

Electrical and service boundary

The manual requires qualified personnel for installation, operation, and maintenance. Before electrical connections or maintenance, disconnect power at the breaker, prevent it from being restored, let the motor stop, and wait four minutes for residual capacitor voltage to discharge. The motor and control contain no user-serviceable internal parts.

Manual-backed scope

This tool applies to the Waterway Power Defender 165–350 variable-speed pool pump motor manual. It preserves the different voltage requirements for the dual-voltage 165 and the 230-volt 225, 270, and 350 models. It does not diagnose the attached wet end beyond the pump and shaft checks stated in the motor manual.
