Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF Speed Limit Warning

The speed limit warning on the Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF is a warning — not an alarm. The pump continues running when this warning is active. When a warning is triggered, the drive's ON/STOP LED blinks GREEN/YELLOW.

What the Speed Limit Warning Means

The pump has reported a Speed Limit Warning. The pump is operating at the programmed maximum speed in order to achieve the desired speed/flow. This warning appears when the pump is running a constant-flow (GPM) program and has reached its configured maximum speed ceiling in its attempt to hit the target flow rate.

In other words: the pump is already going as fast as its Max Speed setting allows, but it still cannot deliver the flow rate the program is requesting.

If the Speed Limit Is Already at 100%

If this alert displays and the Speed Limit is already set to 100%, then the pump may not be capable of achieving the desired flow rate. This means the hydraulic conditions of the system — total dynamic head, pipe sizing, filter restriction, or other factors — are demanding more than the pump can physically deliver at full speed.

In this case, consider:

  • Cleaning the filter to reduce system pressure drop
  • Cleaning the pump strainer basket
  • Verifying all valves in the system are fully open
  • Reviewing whether the programmed flow rate is achievable given the system's plumbing
  • Switching the program from constant flow (GPM) to constant speed (%) if exact flow measurement is not required

Adjusting the Speed Limit

If the Max Speed is set below 100% and is the cause of the warning, adjust the Speed Limit via the Limits Parameters. Access Limits Parameters via: Pentair Pool app, optional Touchscreen Controller (Device Settings > Limits Parameters), or automation system interface.

Warning vs. Alarm

The Speed Limit Warning does not stop the pump. The pump continues to run at its maximum programmed speed. The warning is informational — it tells you the pump cannot meet the requested flow target within the current speed limits.
