Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF Over Voltage and Under Voltage Alarms

The Pentair IntelliFlo3 VSF monitors supply voltage and generates separate alarms for both over voltage and under voltage conditions. Both alarms indicate the supplied voltage is outside the proper operating range. Unlike many faults, both alarms clear automatically when voltage returns to normal — no manual reset is required.

How Alarms Display on the IntelliFlo3 VSF

When an alarm is triggered, the drive's ON/STOP LED blinks RED and a fault code displays. The pump stops until the alarm is resolved. Fault codes display on the Pentair Pool app, automation system interface, or optional Touchscreen Controller (Almond — P/N 356159z, Black — P/N 356348z).

Over Voltage Alarm

The pump has reported an Over Voltage Alarm. Supplied voltage is outside of the proper range. When voltage returns to normal, the alert will clear and the pump will resume operation.

Over voltage occurs when the supply voltage coming into the drive exceeds the acceptable operating range for the pump. This can result from:

  • Utility voltage fluctuations or surges
  • Incorrect wiring or circuit configuration
  • A shared circuit with voltage-generating equipment

Under Voltage Alarm

The pump has reported an Under Voltage Alarm. Supplied voltage is outside of the proper range. When voltage returns to normal, the alert will clear and the pump will resume operation.

Under voltage occurs when the supply voltage drops below the acceptable operating range. Common causes include:

  • Power outage or brownout at the utility
  • Undersized wiring causing voltage drop under load
  • Loose or corroded connections at the breaker, junction box, or motor terminals
  • A circuit breaker or GFCI that has partially tripped

What to Do

Both alarms resolve automatically when voltage returns to normal. If the alarm recurs frequently or does not clear, investigate the electrical supply:

  • Check voltage at motor terminals and at the panel while the pump is running
  • Check line voltage: if less than 90% or more than 110% of rated voltage, consult a licensed electrician
  • Inspect for loose or corroded connections at all terminals
  • Verify the circuit breaker is properly sized per the installation instructions
