Pool chemicals are among the most hazardous materials regularly handled by service professionals. Improper mixing, storage, or handling can cause toxic gas release, chemical burns, fires, or explosions. OSHA requires employers to provide chemical safety training and maintain Safety Data Sheets (SDS) for all chemicals on-site or in service vehicles.
Never mix chlorine products with acid — this produces toxic chlorine gas. Never store oxidizers (chlorine, shock) near acids (muriatic acid). Always add chemicals to water, never water to chemicals. Keep containers sealed and upright during transport. Wear chemical-resistant gloves and safety glasses when handling any pool chemical.
