Pentair IntelliFlo VSF Speed Limit Warning
The speed limit warning on the Pentair IntelliFlo VSF is a warning condition — not an alarm. The yellow warning light illuminates and the pump continues to run. No Reset button press is required.
What This Warning Means
The pump has detected that it has met the maximum allowed speed set in the Min/Max menu. The pump will continue to run, but it will not achieve the desired speed. The warning light will remain illuminated while the pump is operating at the speed limit.
This warning is commonly seen when a flow-mode program is requesting more flow than the pump can deliver at its configured maximum speed. The pump speeds up as far as the Max Speed setting allows, then holds at that speed while displaying the warning.
Note
Maximum and minimum speed settings, and the associated alarms, remain active when in Flow mode. A speed limit warning can occur during a flow program if the required speed to achieve the target flow exceeds the Max Speed setting.
How to Adjust the Max Speed Setting
Navigate to the Min/Max menu to change the maximum and minimum speed limits:
- Check that the green power LED is on.
- Press Menu.
- Press Select to select "Settings".
- Use the Up or Down arrows to scroll to "Min/Max". Press Select.
- Use the Up or Down arrows to scroll to "Set Max Spd". Press Select.
- Use the Up or Down arrows to edit the maximum speed setting.
- Press Save to save. Press Back to exit.
| Setting | Default | Range |
|---|---|---|
| Set Max Speed | 3450 RPM | 1900–3450 RPM |
| Set Min Speed | 450 RPM | 450–1700 RPM |
When to Expect This Warning
The speed limit warning is expected in the following situations:
- A flow-mode program is requesting more flow than the pump can achieve at the configured Max Speed setting.
- The Max Speed has been deliberately set below 3450 RPM to protect older or marginal equipment, and a program is requesting a speed above that limit.
- System conditions have changed (such as a valve closing partially) that require higher speed to maintain the same flow, and the required speed exceeds the Max Speed setting.
If the warning is unexpected, review the Max Speed setting in the Min/Max menu and compare it to the speed requested by the active program. If the Max Speed needs to be raised to meet system demands, increase it to the appropriate value.
