Pentair IntelliFlo VSF Flow Limit Warning
The flow limit warning on the Pentair IntelliFlo VSF is a warning condition — not an alarm. The yellow warning light illuminates and the pump continues to run. No Reset button press is required.
What This Warning Means
The pump has detected that it has met the maximum flow rate set in the Min/Max menu. The pump will continue to run, but it is not achieving the desired speed because it is running at the maximum flow rate. The warning light will remain illuminated while the pump is operating at the flow limit.
When this warning is active, the limit warning is also displayed on the bottom of the drive's keypad screen, indicating that the requested speed is not being achieved and which limit the drive is running into.
When Flow Limit Is Active
The flow limit feature works differently depending on the program type:
- Flow programs (constant flow mode): The flow limit is active by default. The pump will always monitor and enforce the Max Flow setting when running a flow-type program.
- Speed programs (constant speed mode): The flow limit is disabled by default. To enable flow monitoring while running a constant speed program, the "Flow Limit Speed" setting must be manually enabled in the Min/Max menu.
How to Enable Flow Limit for Speed Programs
Navigate to Menu → Settings → Min/Max → Flow Limit (Speed). Change the setting from Disabled to Enabled and press Save. When enabled, the drive will monitor the flow rate while running at a constant speed and will limit the output if the flow rate reaches the Max Flow setting.

Set Maximum Flow Rate
- Check that the green power LED is on.
- Press Menu.
- Press Select to select "Settings".
- Use the Up or Down arrows to scroll to "Min/Max". Press Select.
- Use the Up or Down arrows to scroll to "Set Maximum Flow". Press Select.
- Use the Up or Down arrows to edit the maximum flow rate setting from 80 to 140 GPM.
- Press Save to save. Press Back to exit.
Enable Flow Limit for Speed Programs
- Check that the green power LED is on.
- Press Menu.
- Press Select to select "Settings".
- Use the Up or Down arrows to scroll to "Min/Max" and press Select.
- Use the Up or Down arrows to scroll to "Flow Limit (Speed)". Press Select.
- Use the Up or Down arrows to change the setting from "Disabled" to "Enabled".
- Press Save to save. Press Back to exit.
