Jandy AquaLink RS DIP Switch Configuration: Complete Setup Guide

Technical Guide • Updated March 2026
Jandy AquaLink RS DIP Switch Configuration

Quick Summary

  • The AquaLink RS Power Center PCB has two DIP switch banks: S1 (8 switches) and S2 (4 switches).
  • Factory default for all switches is OFF. Each switch modifies a specific system behavior when turned ON.
  • DIP switch settings differ between Pool/Spa Combination systems, Pool-Only or Spa-Only systems, and Dual Equipment systems.
  • Common misconfigurations include wrong two-speed pump setup (S1 #2), missing freeze protection after solar install (S1 #7), and incorrect heater cool-down behavior (S1 #4).
  • Always photograph current DIP switch positions before making changes, in case you need to revert.

Important

S1 DIP #5 is for factory calibration only. When ON, temperature delays are eliminated and the solar temperature is displayed. Do not leave this switch in the ON position during normal operation.

S1 DIP Switch Reference (All System Types)

Switch OFF (Factory Default) ON
S1 #1 AUX 1 controls any equipment AUX 1 controls pool cleaner. Filter pump turns on with cleaner. 3-minute priming delay. Cleaner off during spa mode and spillover.
S1 #2 AUX 2 controls any equipment AUX 2 controls low speed of a two-speed filter pump. Filter pump button becomes high speed. Requires Jandy Two-Speed Relay.
S1 #3 Pool/Spa Combo: not used. Pool/Spa Only: AUX 3 controls any equipment. Pool/Spa Combo: AUX 3 controls spa spillover (leave AUX 3 relay socket empty). Dual Equipment: not used.
S1 #4 Heater cool-down operates normally Heater cool-down disabled. Only turn ON for electric heaters or heat pumps that do not retain residual heat. Turn back OFF after service if changed temporarily.
S1 #5 Normal operation Factory calibration mode. Temperature delays eliminated, solar temp displayed. Do NOT leave ON.
S1 #6 Combo: separate pool and spa heaters. Dual: separate heaters. Combo: sharing one heater for pool and spa. Dual: pool and spa share the same heater. Change spare AUX to activate when filter pump is on in spa mode.
S1 #7 No solar system. Air temperature is displayed. Air sensor becomes solar sensor. Air temperature no longer displayed. Adjustable Freeze Kit (Part #6996) must be installed for freeze protection.
S1 #8 Gas heater mode. After setpoint reached, heater off for 3 minutes. Heat pump mode. After setpoint reached, heater off for 5 minutes.

S2 DIP Switch Reference

Switch OFF (Factory Default) ON
S2 #1 Solar heating priority. AquaLink RS can control solar heating if solar sensor is connected. Heat pump priority. AquaLink RS controls a heat pump. Solar heating control is disabled.
S2 #2 Not used
S2 #3 Not used
S2 #4 Not used

Heat Pump Configuration Matrix

The interaction between S2 DIP #1, the solar sensor on the 10-pin terminal bar, and the RS-485 heat pump connection determines the system behavior:

S2 #1 Solar Sensor RS-485 Heat Pump Result
OFF Not installed Not connected No solar, no heat pump. Extra AUX available.
OFF Installed Not connected Solar heating with solar priority. No heat pump.
OFF Installed Connected Solar heating with solar priority. Heat pump with heat pump priority.
ON Not installed Not connected No solar. Mechanically connected heat pump with heat pump priority (limited).
ON Installed Not connected No solar. Mechanically connected heat pump with heat pump priority (full).
ON Installed Connected No solar. RS-485 controlled heat pump with heat pump priority.

Common Misconfigurations

Two-speed pump not working on low speed

S1 DIP #2 must be ON, and a Jandy Two-Speed Relay must be physically installed. If you turn the switch ON without the relay, AUX 2 will appear to control low speed on the panel but the pump will not actually switch speeds.

No freeze protection after solar install

When S1 DIP #7 is turned ON for solar, the air sensor is reassigned. The system loses its air temperature reading and therefore cannot detect freeze conditions. You must install the Adjustable Freeze Sensor Kit (Part #6996). This is the most commonly missed step in solar installations.

Heater runs too long after reaching setpoint

If S1 DIP #8 is ON (heat pump mode), the heater stays off for 5 minutes after reaching setpoint instead of 3 minutes. If you replaced a heat pump with a gas heater but forgot to turn S1 DIP #8 back to OFF, the system behavior will not match expectations.

Shared heater not switching between pool and spa

For dual equipment systems sharing one heater, S1 DIP #6 must be ON, and the JVAs must be plugged into the Intake, Return, and Cleaner JVA sockets. If S1 DIP #6 is OFF, the system assumes separate heaters.

AUX 3 relay not working (Pool/Spa Combo)

On Pool/Spa Combination systems, if S1 DIP #3 is ON for spa spillover, the AUX 3 relay socket must be left empty. The system uses the valve actuator instead of a relay for spillover. If a relay is plugged into AUX 3 with DIP #3 ON, it may cause unexpected behavior. On Dual Equipment systems, S1 DIP #3 is not used.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to power cycle after changing DIP switches?

Yes, some DIP switch changes only take effect after a power cycle. Always turn off the breaker, wait 10 seconds, and restore power after changing any DIP switch position.

What are the factory default settings?

All DIP switches are OFF from the factory. This configures the system for: AUX 1-6 as general equipment, single-speed pump, heater cool-down active, gas heater mode, no solar, and solar heating priority.

Where are the DIP switches physically located?

The S1 and S2 switch banks are on the Power Center PCB inside the low-voltage compartment. Open the Power Center door and locate the PCB. The switches are typically near the center of the board, labeled S1 and S2.
